On August 14, the New Britain Fire Department (NBFD) responded at 1:29 a.m. to a garage fire at 131 Landers Avenue. Engines 2, 5 and Ladder 2 were on scene 3 minutes later at 1:32 a.m. The first on-scene company reported a working structure fire in a detached garage of a single family home.
There was heavy fire in the garage which was about 10 feet from a single family house. The back deck of the house and a pick-up truck parked in the driveway were also heavily damaged. The wood frame garage was total loss. The rapidly growing fire did not extend into the house.
The two occupants of the house escaped safely and there were no injuries to firefighters.
The fire was brought under control in 20 minutes. Fire companies were on scene for 2 hours.
Engine companies 2,5,1,4, Ladder 2 and the Deputy Chief/Shift Commander responded to the fire. Sixteen firefighters fought the blaze.
“The garage was fully involved in heavy fire upon arrival. The back deck was already on fire and the back porch windows had shattered from the intense heat when firefighters arrived. The rapid response and aggressive actions of firefighters prevented the fire from spreading into the adjacent home”, stated Fire Chief Thomas Ronalter.
The New Britain Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire.
