Crazed Out Sports owners Scott Stephenson of Southington and Eric Bouffard of Rocky Hill, both carpenters by trade, were looking for a spot to open their new sports merchandise store. They searched until they found one in the perfect space in New Britain, not too far from the New Britain Bees and the town of Berlin, at 450 South Main St.

On July 5, the duo opened the store featuring everything from key chains to backpacks.

“We have been online (www.crazedoutsports.com) for five years and we have a following,” said Stephenson. “It grew online and this is what it developed into. We saw this spot available and knew there is a big population here in New Britain.”

“This is something different,” added Bouffard. “We do officially licensed products. There is no one else around here who does this.”

The items are mostly Game Day Gear and Sideline Gear for all the major sports as well as college. There are also items featuring army, navy, marines, firefighters and EMS.

“We have wallets, jewelry, sunglasses, can coolers, money clips, toothbrushes and much more,” said Stephenson. “We have anything you would want that has your team name on it. It’s great for tailgating.”

Football is the most popular sport for products. But, be aware, the store only sells a limited amount of clothing. It’s merchandise feature more unusual and hard to find items.

Crazed Out Sports also has a dugout where kids can sign the wall and play around in while their parents shop.

“We let the kids sign the dugout. It’s a great place to hide out. Parents know where the kids went and they can’t get into trouble,” added Bouffard.

So far the crowds coming into the store has been good, but it is vacation season so the duo expects even more people to come in next month. Football and Christmas are coming and those are two big times for sports sales they said.

“We ship stuff to all 50 states, so we can mail packages to relatives for the holidays. Our prices beat the mall and online. Our in store prices are better than online so people should come down. They also avoid shipping costs associated with buying online,” said Stephenson. “Sometimes shipping can be more than the item costs.”

Costs for sports items appear lower than most sports stores with prices ranging from a few dollars and up. There are also clearance items.

“So far we actually sold out a lot of Pittsburgh Steeler items,” said Bouffard. “This store is great because people can come out and buy things for a few dollars. Kids can buy their parents a $5 Christmas gift. It’s much lower than at the ballpark.”

Hours at Crazed Out Sports are Mondays through Wednesdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursdays and Fridays 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
