The primary is over, but elections are still a few months away.
I was very happy to see Lucian Pawlak return to City Hall as registrar of voters. He has done so much for this City. It is a good fit.
As far as the 6th District primary, it was an interesting outcome. Sharon Beloin-Saavedra worked hard but people preferred ‘the machine’. It’s interesting to see if anything will change come November.
I would have preferred electing someone who is willing to cross party lines for the best of the City and will make better decisions for the State. But, residents must vote for who they see as the best candidate.
How have you liked the Olympics so far? I have a few opinions on it.
First, it is unreal that NBC continues to not run events live. The Opening Ceremonies was delayed an hour and the women’s gymnastics is shown at night. NBC can always show the gymnasts twice. Once as it happens and again at night. Since I already knew who won. I did not bother watching it at night. I would have watched it live though.
My second observation is that I noticed the American swimmers were happy just to medal. When I first began journalism more than 25 years ago, I observed American swimmers being disappointed in a silver medal. I was astounded that they weren’t thrilled. This year I have heard many USA contestants happy to take home a silver. I am glad things changed. We don’t always need to be first.
My last observation is I think it is unfair any country cannot have three going for medals in the gymnastics. The top 3 should win regardless of what country they are in. It should not be about a country, but rather about who are best people. If all 3 are from the USA so be it.
So it looks like the St. Thomas Aquinas building may finally be sold. I am interested in seeing more about the plan. See story on page 2.
Our Facebook group members had the chance this week to answer our Question of the Month. There were some interesting answers. See what the question was on page 3.
I found a couple of funny jokes on Facebook this week.
“Some people can eat and not gain a pound. I click “like” on a picture of Nutella and gain 5 pounds.”
That is so true.
“I would like to thank my arms for always being by my side. My legs for always supporting me and fingers because I can always count on them. - this will be my speech when I win an Oscar.”
Until next week be thankful and keep reading New Britain’s #1 Most Trusted Newspaper!
