The New Britain Senior TRIAD held its Annual Intergenerational Senior Prom April 14 as a sold out crowd of over 500 attended the dinner and danced at the cafeteria of New Britain High School.

The theme was “Black and White” as tables were decorated in the colors with tablecloths, hats and other fun décor.

This is the 14th year the Senior Prom has been held, but for several in attendance it was their first.

“I watched it on TV last year and thought I would give it a try,” said Linda Hogan. “It’s pretty and there are a lot of people here.”

Eleanor Nowlan, 89, said she has been going to the senior center for years, but this was new for her.

“My daughter and her husband are now old enough so we all came,” said Nowlan. “It has good food, good company and good music.”

The Dick Santi Orchestra and Steve Casillas provided the music and entertainment.

Many regulars for this event say they would not miss it.

“It’s delightful,” said Lillie Arena. “Every year they have a good band and good food.”

Dinner included appetizers, salad, stuffed chicken, vegetables, potatoes, rolls, drinks and dessert for $3.

“It’s a good time with good friends,” added Sandy Hughes.

“It’s a delightful time out on the town,” said Barbara Ann Naples.

Kathleen Lemay said this is her third year and she enjoys everything about it including the decorations and the music.

“We had people waiting to get in for two hours,” said Officer Carol Zesut who coordinates TRIAD. “We have a lot of help to make this a success.”

People came from St. Lucian’s Residence, Jerome Home, Arbor Rose, Monsignor Bojnowski, Brittany Farms as well as various other seniors in the area.

“The groups are all on the TRIAD board,” added Zesut.

Students from Mr. Blaylock’s art class made decorations. Members of the Boys and Girls Club, the parks and recreation department and the Ladies AOH of the Irish Club helped serve dinner.

Mary Labenic was given a card, a chocolate brownie and a crème puff in the celebration of her 103rd birthday.
