Family Fun - Jellyfish

Summer is officially here! The sun is hot and we have already taken our annual vacation to the beach. Our choice is Cape Cod. The beaches are great lots to do and the water is wonderful for swimming.

Our craft this week is Jellyfish! Lucky for us we did not encounter any at the beach so far this year! We recently took our granddaughter to Mystic Aquarium and we were all fascinated by the jellyfish! I wonder how many kinds there are in the world?

There are a couple of fun ways to make them. Let’s start with this one.

Materials:

Black construction paper

Tissue paper

Clear contact paper

A couple colors of ribbon

Scissors

Tape

How to:

First cut out the shape of your jelly fish. You will cut both the inside and the outside of the shape. See photo.

Now you can begin tearing your tissue paper into small bits. I like lots of colors.

Tape your contact paper to the table sticky side UP. Put the black jelly fish outline on the sticky paper. Now begin filling in the shape with your tissue paper bits. It’s ok it they cover the black outline. You will be covering that up later.

When your jellyfish is all covered in pretty colors take another piece of contact paper and put it over the whole thing. Now go ahead and trim all around your jellyfish shape.

Cut some pretty ribbons and tape them to the bottom. Add a ribbon to the top for hanging and your jellyfish is done! Hang in the window for a suncatcher.

Or! Because here at the shop we love choices:

Recycled Soda Bottle Jellyfish

Materials:

Empty clean soda bottle

Googly eyes

Paper Punch

Ribbons

Scissor

Here’s how!

With a sharp scissor - cut round the bottle. This will be the body. We are going to use the bottom of the bottle.

With the punch pop holes all around. Loop the ribbons through the holes. Add some googly eyes and a ribbon to hang and ta da! A Jellyfish!
