Common Goals

New Britain is a community of togetherness. Together, we fight for a better City, a better community and a better way.

Much of what makes this City great is fighting for the common goal.

On Wednesday night we saw a community come together in prayer. It was an amazing feeling no one should soon forget.

In so many ways we are a City standing as one.

But, then there is politics which divides us in unimaginable ways.

This week 6th Senatorial Democratic Candidate Sharon Beloin Saavedra took a walk with Republican Mayor Erin Stewart to learn about the streetscape project.

In a City that is fighting for funds to renovate it, it is alarming to hear that the present Democratic delegation has no interest in learning about the project being done through the Mayor. Especially when their job is to get the City these funds for the project. Not one has requested a tour to find out what the multi-million dollar renovation is all about.

Until people put party politics aside and instead work for the City, we will never be truly whole.

These actions divide us. There is no place for them in our City.

We want to be “hard hittin’ New Britain”, not “party splittin’ New Britain”.

Our Democratic leaders need to stop trying to divide the City and instead try to move it forward regardless of which party the mayor affiliates with.

As the Mayor said, “Party should not matter when you are trying to get something for the City accomplished. There is no Republican or Democratic way.”

Instead we need to work together and make it The New Britain Way!

Only then can we truly become the complete City we are capable of creating.
