We’ve Got Wheels!

Thanks to the generosity of the Dattco Bus Company we’ve got wheels and are taking the library out on the road. Dattco is generously providing us with a bus and a driver and we will be visiting a couple of neighborhoods starting in July.

One of our biggest library challenges is reaching those who don’t come to the library for whatever the reason might be. Not everyone can come to the library. Parents might not take their children to the library; it might not even be a priority for them. Perhaps folks don’t know what the library has to offer or they may think that there is nothing of interest for them at the library. Or perhaps they haven’t even given it a thought.

So we’re coming to you. Why? Libraries are about connecting with the community. The library is not just a building with walls – a library is all about services, programs, the collection and the community. We are not bound by walls. Outreach is already a big a part of what we do. Our librarians already visit schools, bring books, do storytelling and book talks. We participate in community events like Main St. USA, the Community Shower and health fairs. We bring books to the homebound. We do presentations for clubs and organizations on various topics from technology to historical.

And now we are ready to roll. Look for us at Mount Pleasant on Monday afternoons, 1 – 2:30 p.m. and at Oval Grove on Tuesday mornings, 10 – 11:30 a.m., July 11 through August 23. There will be stories and crafts. Hear all about the programs and services at the library. Our librarians can’t wait to see you! Come visit us.

Dattco Bus Company is taking us for a ride. They are generously providing this wonderful opportunity to meet our neighbors. This could be just the beginning. We have lots of ideas of where this could take us. See you in the neighborhood.
