Celebrate Our Independence

While all the Cities around us are cutting fireworks, New Britain is among the few still touting our great display.
This is attributed to no one more than our Mayor Erin Stewart. She had the foresight to put the City in good financial shape while keeping the activities and resources we all love.
A few years ago we were in worse financial shape than Hartford. But, that has all changed with this administration. Hartford is now on the verge of bankruptcy and New Britain is being recognized nationwide.
We should all be very proud of the changes that have taken place. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and now we can also see it more clearly.
The City is not where it needs to be yet, but we can all be proud of where we are going.
For the first time in recent history the board of education and the Superintendent of Schools, Nancy Sarra, are excited about their relationship with the City. That is very rare. The schools and city are usually at odds for many reasons.
This 4th of July celebration is not only the independence of the country, but the renewal of a City shining with hope. One that is an All-America City for the first time. A City that has a declining chronic homeless population. A City that has a renewed Central Park with activities occurring each week. A City where once again anything is possible.
So stand tall on this holiday weekend. We are all New Britainites and together we are showing why we are hard hittin’.
