With less cities having fireworks celebrations this year residents are as proud as can be that New Britain still has our skies blasting on the 4th of July.
The New Britain City Journal Facebook Group was asked “ How do you feel about the fireworks in New Britain? Other towns aren’t having them.”
Most readers were happy to see the City continue the tradition.
“I think it’s awesome that we have such great community sponsors,” said Gayle Sanders Connolly as sponsors help pay for the event.
“Too many traditions have been tossed aside,” said Drue Signorelli. “This one NEEDS to stay so young people might ‘get it’!!”
Josephine Peera-Moreno said, “Great news. Everyone looks forward to them every year.”
“No better place to spend America’s birthday than in an All-American City,” said Justin Dorsey.
“I’m thankful New Britain has continuously been able to provide a great event and great firework show,” said Christina Ann Rosenblatt
“I think it is great that we can keep our fireworks,” said Sue Fahey. “It gives everyone in the area something to look forward to and they are beautiful. I can only hope people come from all over to see ours as it is a nice show and we have many nice places to go watch them from.”
“New Britain is known for their fireworks. It is great that we can provide a happy memory to so many and it will be connected to New Britain,” added Rose Morals. “This is one of the best ways to show off New Britain at its best.”
“I love that we have such a great display every year. I love even more that businesses and the community keep stepping up to finance our fireworks,” said Suzi Singleton. “I do expect a mob scene this year as I expect people from towns that cancelled their fireworks will be coming to town.”
“When will Connecticut wake up and realize the only way it will be saved is by regionalization? Fireworks are a prime example; why do it in so many towns? Find the highest point for visibilty and it do only once, or maybe twice and share the cost regionally?” said Gerry Amodio. “What an idea. Wake up Connecticut, or someone will be the last one out turning off the lights.”
“Personally, I believe that things like the fireworks, pools and splash pads, parks and other “recreational” things are wonderful additions to this city,” said Rachel Sundell. “It’s nice to see our tax dollars (and corporate donations) put to good use.”
“I look forward to the NB fireworks every year,” added Jan Banulski Fonseca. “It’s a yearly tradition with all of our family and friends. Wouldn’t miss it. Thank you to all the sponsors who make this possible.”
Darlene Johnson said, “My family enjoys them. Please continue having them.”
“I think it’s awesome! The fireworks that New Britain puts on is the best by far and it’s about time Hard Hittin’ gets some well deserved shine!” said Tracey Bacchus.
Ann Speyer said, “I wish Parks and Rec would have a booth asking for small contributions from those who come from out of town. If you are reading this and you’re from another town, how about sending a small contribution to NB?”
“Keep having them!! It is an awesome, fun, patriotic tradition!,” said Louis Brown. “I got married on 4th of July 12 years ago, and we went to the Great American Boom that night at Stanley Quarter! Please keep it!!!
“I think it is extremely important to keep community events like this going, especially when the cost to the city is minimal,” said Nick Mercier. “It is an investment in the quality of life, and those are the types of investments that often get lost when people are trying to be overly pragmatic. Having events which make the citizens happy and bring in outside people to New Britain is good for the city.”
The fireworks celebration - The Great American Boom - will be held Monday, July 4 at Stanley Quarter Park. The event begins at 5 p.m. with fireworks taking place around 9:15 p.m.
