On Monday, June 20, the New Britain Board of Education voted to approve the appointment of Joseph Pinchera as Principal of New Britain High School, effective July 1, 2016.
“The Board of Education has met with Superintendent Nancy Sarra to discuss her system improvement and leadership reorganization plans,” said Board president Sharon Beloin-Saavedra. “These plans have several phases that will be implemented over the next few years - phase one encompasses the selection of our next high school principal, a position viewed as the second most important position in our school system. After a
thorough search and interview process, which involved internal and external stakeholders, one name was brought to the Board for consideration - Mr. Joseph Pinchera.”
Pinchera has been the Associate Principal at New Britain High School since July 2014 and has had a wide array of responsibilities. Since beginning at NBHS, he has led the NBHS Safe School Climate Committee. He is the administrative chairperson for the NBHS Scholarship Committee and is something he will continue to do in his
new role. He currently supervises security and custodial staff, schedules all teacher and exam duties throughout the school year, and leads the Red House Attendance Committee to combat chronic absenteeism.
He has helped develop school-wide protocol and procedures and was responsible for evaluating social studies, physical education and health teachers this past school year. Additionally, he is an active supporter of all NBHS athletic programs and musical performances.
“After working in the Consolidated School District of New Britain for the past 16 years - 12 as a teacher and the past four as an administrator - I can say with certainty that while I have given so much of myself to this district, it is this district and this community that has given so much to me,” Pinchera said. “Our students, families, staff, and community members have great passion and pride. It’s the kind of passion and pride that
is most evident in the ways our students and staff continuously come together to accomplish any given task.
This is what energizes and inspires me to lead New Britain High School, especially during this time of community revitalization.”
Prior to being Associate Principal at NBHS, he was the Assistant Principal at Pulaski Middle School beginning in 2012. There, he created the master schedule, developed and implemented staff and student protocol, led Pulaski’s Safe School Climate Committee, helped put together parent and student activities, and assisted the principal with writing of the current SIG grant.
Nancy Sarra, Superintendent of Schools, said that his experience in the classroom and as an administrator makes him a great fit for this prestigious position.
“I am honored and excited to name Joseph Pinchera the next principal of New Britain High School. With his unique ability to build relationships with all students, his collaborative leadership skills, and willingness to collaborate with others, he is the right person to lead NBHS for years to come. I look forward to working with Joe and his team to re-imagine New Britain High School, which will ultimately result in increased student and staff engagement.”
Beloin-Saavedra said there were many qualities both interview committees were looking for throughout the interview process. With these desired qualities in mind, Pinchera was the candidate that was at the top of the list for both committees when all interviews were completed.
“Characteristics and qualities sought for this position included strong building management skills, the ability to develop relationships with all stakeholders, visibility throughout the building especially within the classrooms, and creating an environment of trust and respect culminating in increased student success and increase staff morale. The Board of Education supports the Superintendent’s recommendation of Mr. Pinchera and we look forward to working with him to increase our graduation rate and support every students’ goals and aspirations.”
Pinchera received his Bachelor’s Degree and teaching certification in Physical Education from Southern
Connecticut State University. He received his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership in 2001 from Central Connecticut State University. In 2005, he received his sixth year in Educational Leadership from CCSU. Pinchera also holds an Administration Certification 092.
