Do you really want a good dessert and don’t know where to go in New Britain or Berlin? Our Facebook group readers have chipped in to give us a top 10 list of where to go.

  1. Frisbies Dairy Bar, 941 Farmington Ave. New Britain. Offering 28 flavors of ice cream Frisbies Dairy Bar is number 1 among readers.
    Michael Frisbie had heard many stories of Guida’s Dairy Bar that previously sat on the property he had purchased. The community missed Guida’s. He decided to attend Ice Cream University to learn how to make ice cream and to research the idea of starting an ice cream business further. Tapping into the business strengths of his family, he proved to have a strong team to bring ice cream back to New Britain and make this idea a reality. The Frisbie family opened its doors on July 17, 2024 to lines out the door!
    Don’t miss some favorites like Blue Devil Cookie Monster, Hardware City Road or Berlin Black Raspberry.
  1. Praline’s, 1179 Farmington Ave. Kensington. Praline’s Ice cream has been Connecticut’s original Super Premium Ice Cream maker for over 25 years founded by Donna and the late Joe Torre. Beginning as a lone ice cream shop with ice cream made in the back room daily. Today the ice cream is still made locally in Wallingford CT at the manufacturing distribution facility which is still owned by Donna.
    One reader recommends regular sundae with graham cracker smacker, marshmallow, whipped cream and walnuts!
  1. Dairy Queen, 806 Farmington Ave., Berlin. From blizzards to brownies to cones, everyone loves Dairy Queen. How can you not like a chocolate chop cookie dough blizzard or a hot fudge sundae? Coming in third was a favorite of Berlin residents for many years.
  2. West Side Tavern, 586 West Main St., New Britain. Known for it’s amazing dinners, one should not miss the desserts at West Side Tavern.
    It is always offering something new, but readers recommend you try the Tres Leches. It gets high marks. Sit on the balcony, enjoy the summertime and grab a dessert and a drink.
  3. East Side Restaurant, 131 Dwight St., New Britain. When you go to East Side Restaurant you sample a taste of this Old World style restaurant specializing in German food, bier and culture, but don’t overlook dessert.
    Apple Strudle, Black Forest Sundae and German Chocolate Cake are a few of the items any dessert lover will be happy to eat. There are also pies, parfaits, puddings and jellos. Scrumptious!
  4. Pizza Pal, 264 South Main St., New Britain. A New Britain restaurant known for it’s #1 pizza’s and large grinders, customers also love its desserts. It has daily specials featuring pies, cheesecake, cake and home made puddings.
    Readers recommend the New York Style Cheesecake and the rice pudding.
  5. Max Pizza II, 79 Shuttle Meadow Ave., New Britain. You may have known about this restaurants great food, but be sure to stop by for Gifford’s Ice Cream. With flavors like Peanut Butter Caramel Cookie and Muddy Boots, these desserts are a delight.
    Sundae’s, milkshakes and floats are all available.
  6. FroyoWorld, 1535 Stanley St., New Britain. Their Original Tart recipe was created under the California sun just outside of San Francisco. Before they brought it over to share with the east coast, it won Best Frozen Yogurt on the Best of San Francisco Readers Poll twice, and Best Froyo on the Bay Area A-List.
    It features make your own sundaes with what seems to be unlimited toppings from fruits to chocolates to nuts.
  7. Roly Poly, 587 Main St., New Britain. Stop in and have a quick lunch, but don’t forget to have a dessert. Their cakes are rated very highly by residents. Of course you can’t miss grabbing a paczki.

10. Angelo’s Market, 349 West Main St., New Britain. From prepared foods and grinders, Angelo’s has it all. But one extremely great item is a dessert. It is the cannoli. It is not to be missed. Also rating very high are its Italian cookies and ricotta pies. A great place to grab dessert.
