Special Olympics Torch Run

The 2016 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Connecticut will be held on June 8, 9 and 10th.
This is the 30th year Connecticut has participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run which started in 1986.
The run through Berlin will be held on June10th and will cover approximately seven miles. Officers participating in the run will be soliciting sponsors for the run. This year the following Officers will be participating in the Torch Run, Lieutenant James Gosselin, Lieutenant Christopher Ciuci, Sergeant John McCormack, Detective Ted Fuini, Detective Dave Cruickshank, Officer Aimee Krzykowski, Officer Richard Schreiner, Officer Scott Schreiner, Officer Jeff Scoppetto, Officer John Flynn, Officer Mike Locastro and
Officer Tyler Cyr along with Berlin Police Dispatcher Phyllis Campanella. In addition, State of ConnecticutDepartment of Corrections Officer John McCormack will be participating in the Berlin leg.
Over 3,500 Law Enforcement Officers will carry the “Flame of Hope” in Connecticut. The Torch will be carried around 50 states and 35 nations and 12 Canadian provinces in 2016. This year Special Olympic Athlete’s Kelly Johnson, Christine Amaro and Savannah Tyler will participate in the Torch Run along with local Berlin Police Officers.
These Officers represent over 85,000 officers from local, state and federal departments, agencies and correctional facilities from all over the world. This year’s Torch Run will cover over 520 miles in Connecticut and will run through more than 100 cities and towns. This year’s goal is to raise $ 500,000 for Connecticut
Special Olympics. In 2015, over $50 million was raised for Special Olympics. Since its inception over $500 million has been raised.
