No one should be bored to be in New Britain any longer as we have great new events each week. This week I attended two fun and exciting events downtown.

On Monday, it was our annual Memorial Day Parade. It was so great to see our school bands, JR-ROTC, veterans, City officials, emergency vehicles, local fife and drum corps, sports teams and more.

I remember the parade being bigger and longer, but really it is always very good. I think the rain shortened it a bit.

It was so much fun cheering everyone on. Even the clown walking her hot dog was fantastic. The crowd seemed to be enjoying themselves and was pretty good despite the iffy weather.

If you did not attend, then you missed a fun event. I even got a few pieces of candy. Thanks John and Peter.

On Wednesday I had the opportunity to watch music at Central Park. The park certainly is much bigger and brighter. I felt a real sense of community there. I’m encouraged by what I saw and I plan on returning for more.

It may be hard for some of you to attend since it is during the weekday. If you can, it is a wonderful attraction in the City.

Soon it will be the music series at Walnut Hill Park. I have always loved that. I don’t seem to get to more than one or two each year as the summer seems to fly by.

It is on Monday and Wednesday evenings. It is free and very nice as it is at the Darius Miller Music Shell. There is popcorn and drinks and sometimes the ice cream man shows up.

Some people even dance. When I was young, you could not find a spot to dance on that floor. Now, there are just a few. Sad, how times change.

Remember to get your dog license this month. There is a rabies clinic in the City. Read story on page 2. Also, get your dog spayed or neutered. And lastly, don’t leave them in a hot car with windows rolled up. I hate to hear disasters about animals or children in the heat. Why is it people remember their cell phones in the car, but forget about a child?

Okay, I guess it is time for a joke from Facebook.

“You know you’re a bad driver when Siri says ‘in 400 feet stop and let me out’.”

I’m not always a fan of Siri. Sometimes she tells me to take a left when it is really just a curve in the street. She should learn how to drive before complaining.

Until next week drive safely and keep reading New Britain’s #1 Most Trusted Newspaper!
