Commission Needs More Time

It was a smart decision to form a charter revision commission. The City had several issues to look at changing.
Although some decisions have been made, one of the problems with the Commission is, it does not have enough time.
All members seemed in agreement that the tax collector position needed to be changed or at least looked at further. The problem was, there was not enough time to delve into the matter before the charter must be sent to the Council.
It will be a shame to see problems like this not fixed because of time constraints.
Perhaps, one solution would be for the Council to send the charter back to the commission to discuss it further.
A position such as a tax collector should not be elected. It needs to be appointed. A tax collector job is very complicated. Not knowing if you are going to have a job every two years is a terrible burden to put on someone.
Several other matters seemed to be looked at quickly and decided upon very fast.
This Commission is made up of some very good people. They are doing the best they can.
If the City wants to be sure all the problems charged to the Commission were addressed, it would be best to extend more time to the Commission.
A Charter Revision Commission does not happen every year. When it does, it should not be rushed.
There is a long time until residents have to vote on the changes in November. Let’s give the Commission more time and get every question answered to its fullest.
