Mr. David Chambers, Principal of New Britain High School for the past two years, will be leaving the Consolidated School District of New Britain at the end of the 2015-2016 school year to continue leading students in Florida.
Chambers noted that throughout his career, he has taken opportunities to improve himself both professionally and academically while being driven to succeed with whatever organization he has become involved with. Thankful for this opportunity, he said that being principal of New Britain High School was the high point in his career and that NBHS was a home for him to care for and make better.
“Leaving the New Britain community is very difficult for me as I really felt welcomed and respected,” said Chambers. “Moving to Florida to be with my family is the only priority that takes me away from New Britain.
I want to thank each and every person who believed in me and who worked with me to bring educational excellence back to New Britain High School.”
Ms. Nancy Sarra, Superintendent of Schools, is thankful for Chambers’ contributions to CSDNB and wishes him well along with his family as they transition. While bittersweet, she is looking forward to the process of finding a new high school principal.
“This is an exciting time to be a part of the New Britain team,” said Sarra. “While we have much to do, the energy and passion for creating a culture of excellence and continuous growth is here. We look forward to welcoming a strong leader to the New Britain High School team with the same level of commitment and passion as all of its members.”
Chambers echoed this and knows that the next principal of NBHS will be welcomed with open arms, just as he was when he started in New Britain.
“I trust that the next leader of NBHS will experience all of the love and affection that I experienced from the faculty and staff, from the student body and especially from the community at large. As I stated at the beginning of my time here in New Britain, paraphrasing Postman’s line, ‘children are the living messages that we send to a time and place that we may never see.’ I truly believe that we helped to send positive messages
with positive outcomes into the future.”
Sarra and the Board of Education have already begun the process of finding a new principal to lead one of the largest high schools in the state of Connecticut. Sharon Beloin-Saavedra, president of the New Britain Board of Education, is looking forward to the process.
“The Board of Education thanks Mr. Chambers for his service to our students and wishes him the best of luck as he continues his professional and personal journey. Looking for the next leader of our high school is the top priority for the BOE. We will seek someone with a strong instructional and organizational background who is ‘at home’ in a multicultural community and respects and values our students as young aspiring adults in the making.”
For those candidates who are interested in applying, they are asked to visit www.csdnb.org to submit their online application along with their entry plan by May 20. Interviews will take place in early June with a candidate being brought to the Board of Education for approval on June 20.
