Family Fun - Soda Bottle Flowers

Here at Scraptivity we are all about recycling and upcycling and use it at least one more time before you have to toss it into the waste stream. Today’s project fills that need and is just plain adorable!

What you need:

An assortment of plastic bottles with a screw top

A razor knife for cutting – this part is done by adults!

Sharp scissors

Acrylic paints

Optional – pipe cleaners for stems

How to:

Remove the label if it’s high on the bottle.

Cut the bottle to be as long as the petals of the flowers will be

Cut 6 or 8 slits in the bottle going from the just cut top to almost the screw top, this makes the petals

Trim into petal shapes the wedges that you have produced

Now comes the fun part! Let’s paint those flowers!

When they are dry – remove the cap and if desired punch a hole. A nail or a screwdriver works fine.

Now you can insert the pipe cleaner stem.

Flatten it out on the inside so the cap will catch it on the edges and return to the bottle.

Make several for a color bouquet!

We read the book “Planting A Rainbow” by Lois Ehlert to extend the activity.
