I took a look this week at the projected 2016 Yankee line-up. It looks like this:

Jacoby Ellsbury OF

Brett Gardener OF

Alex Rodriguez DH

Mark Texeira 1B

Carlos Beltran OF

Brian McCann C

Chase Headley 3B

Starlin Castro 2B

Didi Gregorius SS

Other than Castro, it looks a lot like last year.

In 2015 Teixeira led in home runs with 25 while Rodriguez and McCann had 24. Ellsbury had 30 stolen bases and Gardner had 19.

I can see stolen bases rising, but not home runs. We need a new big bat. The Yankees failed to pick up any big name players in the off-season.

The projected rotation is:

Masahiro Tanaka

Michael Pineda

Luis Severino

CC Sabathia

Nathan Eovaldi

Ivan Nova

Last year Pineda had 11 wins and Eovaldi had 10.

I don’t see Sabathia finishing with a winning record. He looked awful last year and bad in Spring training. The other five could be starters. I haven’t seen enough of Severino to be sure about him.

Closer Aroldis Chapman hasn’t had a good Spring Training. His velocity has not been there.

So far this Spring I am not impressed with the team. It could be a long season.

Looking at our complete lineup. I don’t see enough new acquisitions to put the Yankees above last year. Second or third place looks eminent at this point. A few rookies could play a role and there is always possibilities of a big trade. Other than that, this team has a lot of work ahead to see a winning season.

How do you view the season? Drop me a note at [email protected]. Any good thoughts will be posted here in future weeks.
