The Art League of New Britain (ALNB) will hold the following new Spring classes starting Feb. 24 at 30 Cedar St/ You can register on-line at alnb.org or by phone or by emails listed below.
Still Life Painting - Feb. 24, March 2, March 9 and March 16 – Oil/acrylic painting class Wednesdays 2-5, p.m. Paint the still life! Learn to see the details of texture, color and lighting while painting from life. A variety of compositions with fruit, flowers, cloth and dishware will be explored. For beginners to advanced, oil or acrylic. Bring your paints, brushes, a small canvas or board (14×18 max). Oil painters bring containers for used thinners. $90 for 4 weeks. Seminar - Photographing your artwork, working with images – Sunday April 10, 2-4 p.m.
Get some tips, tricks, and solid information about photographing your artwork, working with images and file formats, file sizes. A variety of lighting options will be discussed. Image cropping and correction in a variety of computer applications will be explored. Bring your laptop if you wish with your photo editing software. $15. Minimum 4 students, max 12. Seminar - Web portfolios for artists – Sunday, April, 17 2-4, p.m. Explore the variety of platforms on the web for making a web portfolio for yourself, from FaceBook to Behance, from Wix to SquareSpace, using templates or blanks, needing a domain name or not, how it all works! Bring your laptop if you wish, wifi available. $15. Minimum 4 students,, max 12. Instructor: Kathleen C. Smits

Workshops: Create Clay Hand-building projects each week. $20/ includes 5 lbs of clay glaze and firing. Pre-registration Required. Feb. 28, Noon – 2 p.m. Tea bowls and cups, or March 6, Noon – 2 p.m. Lunch and dinnerware platters, or March 13, Noon – 2 p.m… Planter pots Single Drop In Sessions Wednesdays 4-7:p.m. $25, includes/5lbs of clay.
8 Weeks Clay Hand-building Sessions on Wednesday evenings: Explore the fascination of working with clay learning basic techniques in wedging, pinching and slab sculpting to develop your own line of handcrafted clay pieces. Demonstrations on cups, bowls and plates created in stoneware will be glaze fired and ready for table service once fired. Pieces are food, dishwasher and microwave safe. Techniques with slips, under-glazes, sculpting and altering forms will be discussed. Tuition: $195 + $35 materials fee / 25lbs clay, glaze and firing. March 2 - April 20, 4-7 p.m., or April 27 - June 15, 4-7 p.m.
