I’ve tried very hard not to be too pumped up by the way the Yankees are playing. But, I can’t hold back anymore.
I can’t believe they are in first in late July. The Bombers are really playing amazing. I am starting to get visions of them winning it all.
The starting pitching can be a bit sketchy. And I’m not really sure who our number one starter is. Maybe it is Nathan Eovaldi at 9-2. He is the most consistent. The others can be exceptional one day and not very good in their next start.
The excitement has come because even in games that the starting pitching is bad and the Yankees are losing by scores like 5-0, the team pulls out victories.
Alex Rodriguez can still hit three home runs in a game. Players I least expect to hit well – like Didi Gregorius and Chase Headley – are winning games.
When teams start winning they believe anything can happen. I think that is what is happening this year. I know I am beginning to believe in a team that I thought was full of players that were over-the-hill or players who were too young to make a difference.
Now, I feel like this team is playing like a team. They play together and just get better every single game.
There is a long way to go and next week the team could fall apart. Anything can happen, I am just beginning to think the team will not disintegrate. Yeah! I have not been this excited about the Yankees in years.
Of course, seeing the Boston Red Sox 13 games back feels good as well. At the all-star break Sox fans were talking smack as the team was just 6 ½ back. Now that has stopped as the team tumbles farther and farther behind.
Now, do I seriously think the Yankees will win it all? I have my doubts, but I am much more optimistic and open to the idea than I was on opening day.
