It’s my favorite part of the summer as fireworks go off this weekend. I’ve always loved fireworks and New Britain is a great place to watch them. I view them in my neighborhood and avoid traffic. The only one in my house who is not happy is my dog. She is terrified of them.

While having last week off I had the opportunity of trying a new restaurant. It was in Bristol and is called “457 Mason Jar”. It specializes in southern dishes.

It looks like a little hole in the wall, but the food was excellent. The ribs were enormous. Not like ribs at those chains. They were thick and enough for two people. The steak was cooked just as requested. The sweet potato fries came with a pineapple mango ketchup and it was delicious. Grilled Brussels Sprouts were cooked perfectly. The Cole slaw was definitely unique. To top it off we had the banana pudding. It was topped with whipped cream and strawberries. It was filled with bananas and much more like a custard than a pudding.

Anyway if you are in that area it is on North Main Street and worth a visit. Prices range from $10-20 for a dinner.

I really wish New Britain had more unusual restaurants. I think more are coming. I just can’t wait.

Are you happy to have another team than the Rock Cats coming to the City. I don’t believe that the team not being a “AA” team will have a huge impact. I want to see baseball in New Britain. I don’t care if they are an independent league. I certainly would not go to Hartford to watch minor league baseball.

I also thought it was interesting that New Britain could buy a piece of the team. I would love to do what they do in Green Bay where residents can buy stock in the team and own a piece. It would really motivate every resident who owned stock to attend more games. I doubt that will happen, but it is a fun thought.

Also, we have a new Christmas tree. It should be easy to put up and take down. I can’t wait to see how it looks at Central Park. Read more about streetscape on page 3.

My joke this week is actually a quote from soccer player Mia Hamm.

“My coach said I run like a girl. I said if you run a little faster you could too.”

I love that. It was a great response.

Until next week, run a bit faster and keep reading YOUR #1 Most Trusted New Britain Newspaper!
