Nothing’s Perfect

On Wednesday night the Common Council approved a budget with no tax increase. The majority of the budget was that of Mayor Erin Stewart.

Although no budget may be perfect, it was amusing to hear several Democratic Councilman state that the budget had issues or was a cause for some concern.

These Councilmen were the same ones who said that the budget from Former Mayor Tim O’Brien was their most proud moment.

That same proud budget they are referring to almost bankrupt the City as it had income figures up to ten times higher than would actually come in. The City faced a $33 million debt and a takeover of the State was considered.

It’s great to be honest and say the 2016 budget is not perfect. It would also be great to be honest when a person from your own party is in office as well.

Approving this budget was a step in the right direction. Councilmen all seemed to get along and work together. Maybe things are actually changing. This would definitely be huge for New Britain.

It’s just shocking to hear a good, honest, transparent budget called “not perfect” and a horrible budget called “my most proud moment”.
