East Culture Arts Show At ToM

East Culture Arts, Inc. (ECA) and Trinity-On-Main of New Britain will present a fun for all ages Multi-Cultures Celebration of Music and dance from around the world on Sunday, June 14 from 3 to 5 p.m. Admission is free. Lena Tan (West Hartford), Producer and ECA president, is the Choreographer, skit writer, program director, manager, soprano and dancer. A Chemical Engineer, she works for the State of CT as an Environmental Analyst. She had poems and short stories published in China before coming to the U.S. in 1994. She has a Master Degree of Environmental Engineering from University Of Hartford. Lorelei Chang is the artistic director of dancEnlight, a professional modern dance company based in CT. She is a performer, dance educator, choreographer as well as Chinese calligrapher. She also teaches Yoga, Pilates and Qigong at the South Windsor Senior Center. She is glad to work with ECA and to be involved with all the passionate dance community.

The show includes: Victoria Andino (Southington) ECA event coordinator, Choreographer and dancer; Adam Fidalgo (Providence, R.I.) song writer, musician and singer who released CDs in 1999 and 2008; Lisa Fan (Glastonbury) ECA vice president, soprano and dancer who is a Computer Engineer with a Master’s degree of Computer science; Henry Ye; Dr. Songdong Tian; Lei Wang (ECA Treasurer); Helen Wu (ECA Board), Wendy Zheng, Cindy Zheng, Jenifer Zheng, and Amy Zheng (four sisters from West Hartford); Kiu Yeung (Newington-ECA Board); Xiaoling Kelleher (South Windsor); Liring Xu (Simsbury); Ying Zhang; Susan Chen (East Hartford) and Joey Yang (Newington).

East Culture Arts, Inc. is a non-profit organization, founded by its president Lena Tan and others in West Hartford in 2002. ECA, registered as a non-profit in CT in 2007, is organized and operated exclusively for charitable and education purposes. Its special purposes and objectives are to increase the awareness and understanding of Chinese-American culture and to promote cultural exchange through singing, dancing, and other activities associated with arts.

Some of its past performances include not only traditional and modern Chinese songs and dances, but also singing and dancing from the Hawaiian, Indian, Spanish, and other cultures. Since 2002, ECA has performed more than 20 shows each year, at events such as: the CT Chinese New Year Gala; Dragon Boat Race & Asian festival on the Hartford Riverfront; Mohegan Sun Chinese Culture event; Martin L. King Festival at Yale University; CT Mid-Autumn festival celebration in various locations; Culture shows of Women’s EXPO in Hartford and different culture event in Connecticut and New York City; Nanning International Folk Song Festival in Guangxi, China; Shanghai Citizen Festival; Jiashan popular show in Zhejiang, China; Manhattan China Town New Year Parade and shows; Culture shows in Springfield, Massachusetts and at venues such as Yale Green and many universities, schools, senior centers, and nursing homes.
