New Britain Schools Name “Teacher of the Year”

The Consolidated School District of New Britain has named Slade Middle School teacher Evelyn Hudyma its 2015 “Teacher of the Year.”
The announcement came at the 30th Annual Public Recognition Night held on May 11.
Hudyma was one of four finalists for the award. The other finalists were Marianne Malliett of New Britain High School, David Devost of Holmes Elementary School, and Jill Fitzsimmons of HALS Academy.
Hudyma has been working for the Consolidated School District of New Britain since August 2008. She taught at New Britain High School through the 2012-2013 school year. She has taught at Slade since the fall of 2013. She serves as a lead teacher, as well as Slade’s social studies content lead.
Here are the words used to describe her at the ceremony prior to the announcement:
“Ms. Evelyn Hudyma infuses the highest level of enthusiasm and dedication to her students and the faculty and staff at Slade. Students feel a sense of comfort and trust in her. She engages all of her students in ways that help even the most reluctant learner become focused and involved in their own education. Her profound respect for her students is nothing short of exemplary. She is a teacher whose creativity, content knowledge and innovation serve as an inspiration to those around her. She works tirelessly on the behalf of her students. Her passion for her craft shines in all she does. Evelyn has secured numerous grant monies which enabled multiple field trips and professional development opportunities for her team members and her seventh grade students. Ms. Hudyma exemplifies all that is right with education today.”
Other Teacher of the Year nominees included Rachel Leupold of Chamberlain Elementary, Ryan Pouliot of Frank J. DiLoreto School, Jennifer Peak of Gaffney Elementary, James Kupiec of Jefferson Elementary, Michelle Borselle of Lincoln Elementary, Lindsey Jones of Northend Elementary, Manuel Zaldivar of Smalley Academy, Martha “Tai” Amore of Smith Elementary, Kim Gambee of Vance Village Elementary, Stephen Lechowicz of Pulaski Middle, Chrystal Lodovico of Satellite Careers Academy, and Doreen Pittinger of the Alternative Center.
