State Needs to Play a Bigger Role

It’s become the same old tune – the New Britain Board of Education needs more funding.
There is no doubt that is true. New Britain is way behind most other towns and cities in the way it takes care of its students.
The problem has always been where will the money come from?
New Britain residents are taxed enough. It is time the state stand up and give New Britain the funds it needs.
Our state representative claim they fight for more education funds all the time. At least one has said it is easier to get funds from a friend than a foe and implied that was why Gov. Dannel Malloy needed to win.
Well, Mr. Malloy has won yet a second term. Where is our money?
It is true that New Britain has received some additional funds for education in the past few years. But, it is nowhere near enough.
It is time the state player a bigger role.
Either our state representatives need to fight a little harder for this City or they need to be replaced in two years.
No longer can New Britain sit on the back burner and suffer because it is overshadowed.
Education is key to a City’s success.
Mayor Erin Stewart has done all she can do to bring New Britain up from the ashes. It is time for the education system to follow suit. The way for that to happen begins at the state level.
