Editor’s Note 2/20/15

I’m happy to see the City finally getting rid of the snow downtown. It seems like it took an awfully long time for them to decide to do it. It should have been worked on a week or two ago before it got so big. Corners with big piles must also be fixed so people can see around corners when they drive. Safety must be a priority.

Okay, no more complaining about the cold, wintry weather. From now on I am only thinking warm thoughts like Yankees baseball, the desserts around Las Vegas, a dip in the ocean off Bermuda and a cup of freshly brewed coffee. Doesn’t that sound better than discussing the weather we are having?

This week we have some interesting articles in the paper. I thought the days of writing about the shenanigans surrounding the administration of Tim O’Brien were over. It seems some topics always seems to bring up those bad memories. See page one for more.

Also on page one is a story on bringing up the per pupil expenditure at the schools. To me this really needs to be done by the state in order to be fair to all students. Only so much can be expected by New Britain taxpayers.

I was saddened to hear Pope John Paul II closing its doors. I went to two Catholic Schools – St. Francis of Assissi and St. Thomas Aquinas – and both are now closed. When I was young we had at least five Catholic Schools in the City. It is a shame to see them slowly leave.

We are starting a new series this week about the New Britain Co-op artists. I hope you check in every week to learn more about them.

I want to remind everyone to please support our advertisers. Take a look at the ads in this paper and remember they are the reason this publication is free. They need your support.

The NBHS Marching Band is having a great fundraiser on March 7. Be sure to add that date to your schedule. See more info on page 2.

As always think about going solar. It will save you money on your electricity bill and help the earth go green. Best off it is free for you. Call 860-357-1091.

Some weeks I can’t find a good joke on Facebook for the paper. This week I think I found two.

“If you eat an entire cake without cutting it, does that mean technically you had one piece?”

And

“I’m not going outside until the temperature is above my age.”

For some of us that means very different times to go out. I think I will wait until March just to be on the safe side.

Until next week stay inside a little longer and keep reading YOUR #1 Most Trusted New Britain Newspaper!
