Although the purpose of a request from Alderman David DeFronzo may or may not be to show the present administration is spending City money for outsourcing attorney fees, the result was an easy one to spot.
Former Mayor Tim O’Brien used more City funds to outsource activities than the present administration.
Why is that useful? It continues to confirm a trend we know took place in the City during Democrat O’Brien’s reign of using City funds as if it grew on trees.
It is also one more time that brings up Global Strategies Group and its $100,000 in taxpayer money that no one knows its use.
If Ald. DeFronzo’s goal was to show unnecessary use by this administration, it certainly backfired.
Ald. DeFronzo said he was looking to see if it was useful to spend more money to hire another attorney rather than outsource funds. That could be his true reason for the request.
But, we must remember it is election season. Ald. DeFronzo is one of a handful of people who may run for Mayor this year.
Expect all of them – including Mayor Erin Stewart – to pull out all the stops. Each will try to find something on the other to show they wasted funds, lied or cheated the public out of something.
It will be a time of accusations and name calling.
There are many months to go before it is time to vote. Be vigilant of what each candidate does and understand their true purpose.
