On Top of Things

This week’s Blizzard Juno was not Blizzard Charlotte from 2013, but just in case it was, this time the City was ready.
Two years ago residents were trapped in their homes for up to four days as Former Mayor Tim O’Brien’s handling of the storm was atrocious, to say the least.
Since then, new operations have been put into place and in 2015 things ran much more smoothly.
Most roads were plowed within 24 hours and getting around the City was easy by late Tuesday afternoon.
Much of it was due to a new system that did not give the City a chance to lose streets to too much snow. Some of it was just using smarts such as putting on new chains on plows and having better equipment available.
Also, the City was not hit as hard this year. There was more snow that fell in New Britain in 2013.
Many people are responsible for keeping on top of the storm this time around. It took a lot of man hours and preparation to allow our City to run properly during a blizzard. There are many people to thank like Mayor Erin Stewart, Police Chief James Wardwell, Public Works Director Mark Moriarty and those on the storm committee.
It does feel good to know our City is in good hands and is now properly prepared no matter what disaster may occur.
Unfortunately, winter is not over yet.
