Don’t Hold Your Breath

Even though the Civil Service Commission has recommended the Common Council remove Mayor Pro Tem Suzanne Bielinksi from her position, it is unlikely that will happen.
The Democratic majority has never had any interest in removing any of its own members regardless of what they have done.
The Commission found Bielinksi guilty of hiring her niece by marriage to a City job. Originally it chose to remove Bielinkski. But, after hiring Counsel it found that that can only be done by the Common Council.
Last year Republican Councilmen wanted to remove Alderman Michael Trueworthy for his drunken rampage. The vote was across party lines and was not even looked at due to the Council being made up of a Democratic majority.
The same thing will occur in this situation.
It was good to see the process done and Alderman Lou Salvio should be congratulated. The wrongdoing was identified, a conclusion drawn and recommended. But don’t expect further action to take place.
Bielinski will pay her $250 fine and the matter will be dropped by the majority party.
