It’s that time of year when people get new gadgets. Let us make it painless and walk you through it. The library offers free one on one instruction or assistance with e-readers, computers, tablets and software. Book a one hour appointment with one of our librarians and learn at your own pace.

New e-reader? Be brave. Step 1- unwrap it and bring it in. Learn not only how to use it but how to access our collection of free downloadable e-books, audiobooks and streaming videos. It’s a great collection which we have expanded in the past year, adding more children, teen and adult e-books.

Still a newbie when it comes to computers? Need mouse, email or basic computer instruction? Or how about learning about that software on your computer that you never opened? Want to know more about Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint? These software programs have many home uses that come in handy for the average computer user.

Think again if you thought you had no use for Excel. It’s a great tool to manage your finances. Create a budget; track your income and expenses. Plan and manage a project to keep track of multiple tasks and deadlines. Create lists from checklists to make traveling and packing better. Manage your book, wine or DVD collection, groceries, and yes, get ready for next year’s holiday gift giving and card sending. Build an address book for mailing labels. Learn how PowerPoint, a presentation program can create your family story and put together photos of a family event. And find out how Publisher can help you create signs, greeting cards, calendars, brochures, labels, award certificates, or invitations. You never know how useful these can be until you explore them. Let us can make it easy and pain free.

Or maybe you would like to explore one of the free databases that the library has available. Ancestry will provide a wealth of information about your family history. For job and college searching there is Career Cruising. JobNow will provide resume, interview and job searching help with live assistance. If you would like to know more about other countries, Global Road Warrior provides a wealth of historic, cultural and geographical information along with helpful travel tips. Learning Express is a practice test and skill building database for tests such as the SAT, GED, Commercial Driver’s License and ASVAB practice tests as well as licensing exams for trades and occupations. It also provides help to brush up on your Math and English skills.

Instruction is also offered in the use of the library’s catalog, Encore. Learn searching techniques and tips to better navigate the catalog and find what the library’s collection has to offer you.

We know there are many skill levels and comfort zones when it comes to electronics. Our librarians will help answer your questions and explore what e-readers, computers and databases can offer.
