It was so wonderful to get such a great turnout on Friday night for the Halloween Trick or Treat Safe Zone. I would say about 3,000 people turned out.
It started off a little slow and I was worried, but by 5 p.m. it picked up and was crowded. I had such a kick handing out the Halloween bracelets.
The costumes were adorable. Some of the best ones I saw I could not find for the costume contest.
I really want to thank Ceglarz Motors, Roma’s Restaurant, Frosty Mug, Dunkin’ Donuts, Amato’s Toys and Hobby, Jasko Development and the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain. We could not have done it without great sponsors. A big hug to all who donated funds or their time to make this so successful.
It is the only big event the New Britain City Journal sponsors and will always be big to me.
Now, as for Christmas, I was thinking wouldn’t it be nice if we knew some people who could decorate the outside of City buildings. Do you remember when you drove through New Britain just to see the decorations on the buildings? Can’t we find a way to decorate at least a few of them like City Hall, the Board of Education office and Amato’s Toys and Hobby. It would take someone with some skill and maybe we need to raise a few bucks, but it is time to start thinking outside the box. Let’s make New Britain better in every way. Can you help?
Contact me at [email protected] if you have any great ideas. We need to give people a reason to come to our center. Once that happens, then good stores and eateries will be knocking at our doors to be part of downtown.
We can’t just wait and hope, we need to lend a hand in making this City sparkle again. I could not sleep Halloween night thinking of all the possibilities the City could do in the future.
A Halloween committee has been formed. I think a Christmas committee needs to form with great new ideas. These plans may not happen this year, but it is never too early plan for the future.
I know I’m a dreamer, but unless you try, nothing is ever accomplished.
There is a lot in this week’s paper so do not miss a page of news you won’t find elsewhere.
Congratulations to the winning candidates. I hope you do the very best job for New Britain that you can.
Joke of the week from Facebook.
“And when the clock strikes midnight on Halloween night, Halloween will end and then BAM Christmas carols are everywhere.”
To be honest I saw Christmas TV shows were on Halloween night. Holiday commercials were on too.
