Scarecrow Winners Announced

The 10th Scarecrow reunion has begun with twenty eight scarecrows welcoming in the fall season until Thursday, Oct. 30 on Farmington Ave. Despite the rain the judges for the event, Mayor Rachel Rochette, Former Mayor and Berlin Police Commissioner Bob Peters, CT Senator from the 6th District Terry Gerratana and Business owner of Rich’s Citgo, Terry Tonina have made their decision on the winners of this year’s contest.

The title of Berlin Best Scarecrow is being shared this year with the Berlin Free Library Children’s Dept. in the children’s division (made by 10 – 16 yr olds) Alice in Wonderland sitting on a mushroom at Walgreens and Dance Legacy, Caroline’s Dance Center LLC with their “ Dancers Dreams Scarecrow” at T.D Bank in the business division.

Winners for the Adult Division include, First Place: Berlin Senior Center with the Yankee Peddlar at Dunkin Donuts, Second Place Raising Berlin’s Elisa and Olaf from the movie Frozen at Stop & Shop driveway. Third Place Peck Memorial Library – Family of Owls with the Owl Moon Story nesting in Volunteer Park Honorable Mention for the Adult Division are the Kensington Garden Club’s “All in Pink: Breast Cancer Awareness Scarecrow, Berlin Republican Town Committee’s “Reagan” the Elephant and his companion Scarecrow and the Lady Red Birds – Red Hat Society – UConn Girls Champion Basketball Player.

Winners of the Children’s Division are First Place, Berlin FIRST Robotics’ Grim Reaper with Fatal error screen for his face. Come at night and see his face glow. The scarecrow is located near Volunteer Park. Sharing the title is First Place winners “Soccer Chicks” Morgan Biello, Jocelyn DiMatteo, Lindsey Leary, Lauren McBride, Gwen Tighe with the Soccer Chicks Scarecrows Supporting Ava’s Mom org. at the Simeone’s Shell. Second Place winners both located at Walgreens are the BHS Upbeat Peer Leadership Program’s Construction Worker – BHS and Peer Leaders both Under Construction, and G.S. Troop 66209’s GS Cookie Booth. Third Place, Berlin Youth Boys Lacrosse, Berlin Lacrosse player with mask near Volunteer Park. Honorable Mention Berlin Youth Girls Lacrosse’s Girl Lacrosse player in chair Stop & Shop driveway and the Learning Experience (made by 6 mos. – 5 yr olds) Elephant in overalls at Ratchford Eye Center. And the winners in the family division First Place goes to the Reinhardt Family: Andrew, Kelly, Rhiannon and Mathilda with their Berlin “Minions” at Walgreens and Second Place, 6 year old Saoirse and 4 year old Caoimhe with their Sunflower girl in straw hat watering her sunflowers at the former Arby’s Fence facing Farmington Ave. The following businesses participated in the Scarecrow festival with first place going to Dance Step’s Dancing Witch with a purple mask at Lower Lane Park.

Second Place went to Euro-American Connections & Homecare with their Caregiver Scarecrow and patient in wheel chair in Lower Lane Park and Third place winners Powerhouse Gym with two weight lifter Scarecrows in Volunteer Park and Center Hardware Division of Lyon & Billard’s Gruesome Griller in front of Center Hardware. Honorable Mentions in that division include Ledgecrest Healthcare’s Pumpkin head scarecrow in overalls sitting on bale of hay in Lower Lane Park, The Circle of Life School of Taichi Chuan LLC – Baguazhang’s – TaiChi Student at former Arbys on the corner, Cost Cutters’ Beautician holding the big scissors and the scarecrow’s head, Top Dog Pet Services’s Top Dog in human clothes, dog walker, and dogs, Good Cause Gifts’ Broom Scarecrow at Lower Lane Park, Average Joe’s Fitness and Boot Camp Center’s “Fitness Scarecrows” at Lower Lane Park and New Britain Youth Museum at Hungerford Park’s “ Let’s talk Turkey about Hungerford’s and what they offer. Turkey Scarecrow made out of recycled materials located in Volunteer Park.
