Robert (Bobby) Sanchez was elected to the Connecticut General Assembly in 2011 representing the 25th Assembly District in New Britain.
Bobby was born in New Britain and is a lifelong resident. He is married to Nebeska Sanchez and they have a son named Lawrence. Bobby attended New Britain local schools and holds a bachelors and graduate degrees from Springfield College.
Bobby is a longtime leader in the New Britain community. Before joining the state legislature, he served on the New Britain Board of Education, where he was a strong voice for quality education for all children. He is also well known for his work at the Human Resources Agency of New Britain, Inc., where his efforts have led to a stronger Head Start education program in the city. He is currently employed by the Human Resources Agency (HRA) as Case Manager and Fatherhood Initiative Coordinator. Through the years, he has built strong relationships with families, professionals and local leaders in New Britain where he maintains an extraordinary level of commitment, respect and dedication.
Additionally, he has served on different local organizations and boards such as: Citizens for Action in New Britain, the Federal Housing Residents Council, the New Britain Democratic Town Committee, the New Britain Human Rights Commission and in the past, was selected by the City’s Town Council to serve on the City’s Housing Coalition Board.
Bobby has been supportive of the Governor Malloy [‘s Small Business Express Program and initiatives to grow jobs in Connecticut, as well as supporting middle class families. He has supported and protected the federal Earned Income Tax credit for low income working individuals, paid sick days for service workers, and minimum wage legislation.
He has also worked diligently to provide additional pre-school slots, establishing the office of early childhood, ECS funding and grants for our local schools as well as securing funds for new construction at Diloreto School and Gaffney School. Funding resources have also been set aside for the Boys and Girls Club, YWCA, YMCA, and other non-profit agencies. Bobby also helped secure bonding for the Mount Pleasant Training Center which will be opening soon and will provide training for many people seeking jobs.
