Elections 2014

For New Britain to flourish it is essential that we create a vibrant and sustainable economy. Connecticut is one of the slowest growing economies in the nation and much of this is due to how over regulated Connecticut has become. We desperately need legislators who will vehemently work to create a healthy business environment.

Let’s create a business environment where companies will see Connecticut as the place to be.

Let’s create a state where small family run businesses will flourish.

Until our economic problems are addressed we will have an extremely difficult time successfully dealing with situations such as the homeless crisis in New Britain. The majority of the homeless are addicts and mentally ill and New Britain does not have the resources to take care of their needs. The federal funding for state and local governments to provide care of the homeless has been repeatedly slashed over the last several decades. We are experiencing the consequences of these cuts. The homeless need centers that care for the mentally ill and the addicted and once they receive proper treatment they need affordable housing.

The center of New Britain has little chance of being revitalized until the homeless situation is resolved.

New Britain has wonderful old factories. These buildings take us back to the time when we were the hardware capital and when New Britain was the place to move to in order to have employment and a great place to raise a family. Sadly our factory buildings sit empty of life. And they are empty even though our city is centrally located with multiple highways that provide easy access. Both the economic slump and the factories being rife with hazardous waste accounts for these once vital factories sitting empty.

In order to for employment to be on the rise, in order for our factory buildings to be once more vital places and for our homeless crisis to be dealt with we need representatives who will work to make Connecticut a welcoming place for business.

Paul Gobell currently serves as an Art Commissioner for the City of New Britain.
