This year’s Halloween Trick or Treat Safe Zone event is preparing to be better than ever. Great things are planned.

But, before the festivities begin, there will be a fundraiser on Oct. 2 at Roma Restaurant, 382 Allen St.

A Dinner and Movie is planned in order to raise funds for the Halloween celebration.

It will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner and a movie will take place at 7 p.m.

Roma’s Sports Bar is donating the food for the event.

The movie will be Halloween centered and may not be child appropriate.

“We thought what better way to raise money than to have an event that puts people in the mood for the spooky fun holiday. Roma’s has been extremely generous to us. They are a great sponsor who has always helped make this Halloween event special,” said Robin Vinci, Editor in Chief of the New Britain City Journal who is the founder of the Halloween event. “The movie will definitely be a classic like Young Frankenstein or Psycho. It will be a great time for all.”

Donations are $20 for the fundraiser.

Tickets can be picked up starting Monday at the Downtown District, 66 Main St.

The Halloween Trick or Treat Safe Zone runs on Halloween night Oct. 31 with local businesses giving out candy to children in a safe area of the City. There will also be a performance of “Thriller” by the YWCA as well as a costume parade with prizes. Mayor Erin Stewart will also give the Mayor’s Award to best overall costume.

More details will be released as the event draws closer.

There are a number of ways to donate to the cause. A check can be mailed to the Downtown District, 66 Main St., New Britain, CT 06052 (be sure to put it is for the Halloween Safe Zone).
